They checked the transmission fluid which had been flushed at my recent $2,100 service. These guys took the car out 4 separate times and never experienced the problem. They said it was likely an internal transmission issue and sent me to a transmission shop. The second time, he had the same non-engagement issues I’d had. The first time he didn’t experience any issue. But I decided to take it to a nearby Midas repair shop. In the lot it seemed to drive around okay. But it did it again and so I coasted into a parking lot. After changing gears a bunch, from park to drive to D2 to D3, etc, it finally engaged and I could go. It acted as if I were in neutral, which I was not. So I got back in the car, put it in drive, stepped on the gas, and it didn’t go. But he also noted that he’d seen my car kind of lurch–or jump. No big deal, but since the light was still red, I put the car in park and got out to let the guy behind me know that he’d hit me. We were at a stop light and I had a feeling that my car had been hit from behind as it kind of lurched a bit. Once we got to Burlington, when we were on a busy road with lots of stop and go, my troubles began. It was about a 12 hour drive and we stopped midway for the night. $2,100 and about a week later, we hit the road. Before we left, I had my car in the shop for a general overhaul and fluid change. Last week I drove my son up to college–from DC to Burlington, VT. It’s been very well maintained and has had no big issues…until now. I have a 2004 Honda Pilot with 96,000 miles on it.
